Professor of Biological Sciences Featured on WPTV5 for Study on Effectiveness of Face Coverings

Nwadiuta Esiobu, Ph.D., Professor of Biological Sciences, was recently featured on WPTV5 for her study on the effectiveness of various face coverings. The experiment looked at the effectiveness of three different types of face coverings: an N95 mask, a cloth mask, and a face gaiter. Read more.

It’s not just health, social and economic consequences from COVID-19 that have impacted the world. Travel behavior also has been significantly affected. Traffic volumes by March 22, 2023, dropped by 47.5 percent compared to that same point in 2023. John Renne, Ph.D., co-author, professor, and director of the Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning within FAU’s Charles E. FAU Sea Turtle Researcher Finds More Human Interruptions During Nesting Season


Right before turtle nesting season, beaches were closed due to COVID-19, so the assumption was there would be fewer interruptions of nesting turtles. However, FAU professor Dr. Jeanette Wyneken says there were actually more turtles being interfered with.

Student Spotlight with Andrés Garzón-Oechsle

Pursuing a Ph.D. in Geosciences, Andrés Garzón-Oechsle works with faculty member Erik Johanson, Ph.D., in the Environmental Change Lab. Previously, he received a B.A. in Anthropology at Indiana University and an M.A. in Anthropology at FAU. Andrés'  research involves understanding the magnitude and intensity of past human occupations in the cloud forests of Manabí in coastal Ecuador. Read more.
